THE COST COMPARISON
Bluehost and Hostinger cost almost the same at signup for the offers below. The difference is how much hosting that payment buys—and what you commit to when the introductory period ends.

LONGER INTRODUCTORY TERM
Hostinger Premium
$2.99/month equivalent
Confirm the renewal billing period in your order.

LOWER 36-MONTH RENEWAL RATE
Bluehost Starter
$3.99/month equivalent
That renewal rate means a $359.64 term total.
12¢ difference. 12 extra months.
The initial payments are nearly identical, but the longer offer includes another year. A lower monthly equivalent is different from a substantially lower checkout bill.
What do you actually pay at signup?
Multiply the introductory rate by the number of prepaid months. Use the full charge to decide whether an offer fits your budget; use the monthly equivalent to compare how much service it includes.
For these offers, the calculation is $2.99 × 48 = $143.52 versus $3.99 × 36 = $143.64. Taxes and optional purchases are excluded. Sources: Hostinger pricing and Bluehost web hosting.
If you only expect to use the site for a year, compare annual offers separately. A long discount period is useful only if you want the service for that long. Leaving early does not necessarily turn a prepaid purchase into a prorated monthly subscription.
Renewal rate versus renewal payment
For the selected offers, hosting renewal happens after year three or year four—not automatically after year one. Other services on the account can have earlier renewal dates.
| Renewal term | Monthly rate | Term total | Annual equivalent |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 month | $15.99 | $15.99 | $191.88* |
| 12 months | $11.99 | $143.88 | $143.88 |
| 36 months | $9.99 | $359.64 | $119.88 |
The lowest rate above requires the largest renewal commitment. Budget for the whole term total, and confirm which options apply to your account before renewing.
What can we confirm for Hostinger?
Premium’s public offer lists a $10.99 monthly renewal rate. Its annual equivalent is $131.88, but that does not establish an annual invoice or month-to-month availability. Check the renewal period and full amount attached to your order. Source: Hostinger.
Comparing a multi-year rate with a monthly rate does not establish which provider offers better flexibility. To answer that question, obtain quotes for the same renewal period.
A worked example: keeping your site for four years
A shared end date makes the difference between the introductory commitments easier to see. This illustration uses today’s rates, excludes extras and assumes you stay on the selected plan. It is a budget scenario, not a promise of future renewal prices.
| Scenario | Calculation | Total |
|---|---|---|
| Hostinger: initial 48-month offer | One introductory payment | $143.52 |
| Bluehost: 36 months + a 12-month renewal | $143.64 + $143.88 | $287.52 |
The difference is $144 over this four-year scenario. The second scenario assumes the annual renewal option remains available at the published rate.
If you instead select a three-year renewal, you buy service beyond the four-year comparison window. Count that extra commitment in your cash budget; do not present one-third of the invoice as the amount you pay at renewal.
For periods extending beyond both introductory offers, get the exact renewal terms first. A lower renewal rate by itself does not determine total ownership cost.
What the hosting price leaves out
Your account may contain several products with different billing dates. Keep a small budget for each one rather than treating the hosting price as the entire website cost.
- Domain name: a first-year promotion is not a lifetime waiver. Check the renewal price for your chosen extension.
- Email: a free trial or first-year inclusion can become a separate subscription.
- Optional services: review security bundles, backup upgrades and other checkout additions before paying.
- Website software: premium themes and plugins can have independent annual charges.
- Taxes and currency: compare the final amount in the same currency and tax situation.
Ask whether you need an extra service before removing it. The aim is to avoid duplicate or unnecessary spending while keeping the features your website relies on.
Which offer makes more sense for you?
For a new site you expect to keep through the full introductory period, the longer offer is compelling in the worked example. That is a pricing conclusion, not evidence of faster servers or better support.
For an existing customer approaching renewal, start with your own renewal notice. Confirm the plan, term, total charge and included services. Public new-customer promotions may not be available to you.
If you are considering a switch, count migration work, overlapping subscriptions and the risk of disrupting email or a working site. A small monthly saving can disappear if moving takes substantial time.
Usability deserves a separate comparison. Read our Bluehost versus Hostinger beginner guide, or compare other options in our personal website hosting guide.
Before accepting a renewal
- Find the renewal date and allow time to review alternatives.
- Confirm the exact plan and new billing period.
- Separate hosting from domains, email and optional subscriptions.
- Compare the full invoice with the cost of staying or moving.
- Save the agreed terms and verify that backups are recoverable.
Do not cancel a working service until you understand what will happen to its website files, email and domain settings.
Frequently asked questions
Does a monthly advertised price mean monthly billing?
No. It can be the total prepaid charge divided by the contract length. Look for the billing period and amount due at checkout.
Will the price definitely stay the same until my next renewal?
This guide records public offers on the date above. Your order terms and provider notices determine the charges that apply to your account. Use current renewal rates for planning, not as a guarantee several years ahead.
Can I get another introductory discount when I renew?
Do not assume so. Introductory offers and renewal quotes serve different purchases. Ask for any available retention offer, but budget using the renewal amount actually confirmed for your account.
Should I choose the lowest renewal rate?
Consider the commitment behind it. Paying for several years may lower the monthly equivalent, but it also commits more cash and can be poor value if your needs change.
